Peach And Nectarine Market Size in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS peach and nectarine market reached $X in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate slight growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, peach and nectarine production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 185% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of peach and nectarine production was Guinea-Bissau (X tons), comprising approx. 98% of total volume. It was followed by Nigeria (X tons), with a 1.6% share of total production.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Guinea-Bissau totaled +1.9%.

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of peaches and nectarines, when their volume increased by 7% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 129,549%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, peach and nectarine exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 101,511%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), together reaching 99% of total export.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the peaches and nectarines exports, with a CAGR of -7.2% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) also remains the largest peach and nectarine supplier in ECOWAS.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 260%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Cote d'Ivoire.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Cote d'Ivoire amounted to +13.5% per year.

Imports in ECOWAS

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of peaches and nectarines increased by 17% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 65%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, peach and nectarine imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Cabo Verde represented the key importer of peaches and nectarines in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 40% of total imports in 2021. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together took near 47% share of total imports. The following importers - Benin (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) - each recorded a 5.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to peach and nectarine imports into Cabo Verde stood at +11.5%. At the same time, Guinea (+26.0%), Nigeria (+22.3%), Mali (+7.9%), Benin (+7.0%), Cote d'Ivoire (+3.2%) and Senegal (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +26.0% from 2012-2021. Cabo Verde (+10 p.p.) and Nigeria (+9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Senegal and Cote d'Ivoire saw its share reduced by -8.1% and -9.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cabo Verde ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Nigeria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 76% of total imports. These countries were followed by Senegal, Benin, Guinea and Mali, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Among the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +24.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 12%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Benin (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
