In value terms, green peas exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Exports by Country

Nigeria was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 48% of total exports. Gambia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), Niger (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons). All these countries together took near 45% share of total exports. Togo (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

By contrast, Ghana (-2.3%) and Gambia (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Gambia (+12 p.p.), Senegal (+9 p.p.), Niger (+8.4 p.p.), Burkina Faso (+4.7 p.p.), Togo (+3.9 p.p.) and Ghana (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (-40.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest green peas supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Gambia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 17% share.

In Nigeria, green peas exports decreased by an average annual rate of -24.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Gambia (-13.6% per year) and Senegal (+12.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 64% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Gambia, with a CAGR of +19.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -8.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 36%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per ton), while Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
