In 2022, Senegal (X tons) was the key exporter of phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids in ECOWAS, mixing up 100% of total export.
Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids exports, with a CAGR of +3.8% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2022, approx. X tons of phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids were imported in ECOWAS; growing by 24% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 109%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, phosphoric acid imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 106%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) were the largest importers of phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids in ECOWAS, together recording near 69% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons) and Ghana (X tons), together achieving a 26% share of total imports. Burkina Faso (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +25.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Senegal ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 86% of total imports. Ghana and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.4%.
Among the main importing countries, Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +18.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
