Cement Pipe Market Size in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS cement pipe market expanded to $X in 2022, growing by 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Cement Pipe Production in ECOWAS

In value terms, cement pipe production rose slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2022, overseas shipments of pipes and other articles of cement increased by 69% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 121%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cement pipe exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 106% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Togo (X tons), distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) were the main exporters of pipes and other articles of cement, together committing 94% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +41.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cement pipe supplying countries in ECOWAS were Nigeria ($X), Cabo Verde ($X) and Togo ($X), with a combined 74% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Senegal, Sierra Leone, Cote d'Ivoire and Mali, which together accounted for a further 14%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +25.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -14.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 171% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($X per ton), while Sierra Leone ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+27.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cement Pipe Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, imports of pipes and other articles of cement in ECOWAS reduced markedly to X tons, dropping by -24.7% against the year before. Overall, imports faced a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 61%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cement pipe imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Ghana (X tons), distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Benin (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) were the main importers of pipes and other articles of cement, together creating 90% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +42.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Senegal ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 70% share of total imports.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +50.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 97%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Cabo Verde ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
