The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 63% against the previous year. In 2021, approx. X tons of plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses were exported in ECOWAS; dropping by -52.8% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 275%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses reduced sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a notable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 257%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) represented the largest exporter of plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses, making up 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Togo (X tons), achieving a 17% share of total exports. The following exporters - Senegal (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Benin (X tons) - together made up 9.8% of total exports.

Cote d'Ivoire experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses. At the same time, Togo (+36.8%) and Benin (+20.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +36.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Senegal (-17.1%) and Ghana (-24.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and Benin increased by +18, +17 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with a 29% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 5% share.

In Cote d'Ivoire, exports of plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Togo (+53.6% per year) and Senegal (-9.5% per year).

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a prominent expansion. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +12.8% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +121.2% against 2012 indices. In 2021, Nigeria (X tons) represented the largest importer of plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses, mixing up 45% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Mali (5.1%). Guinea (X tons), Togo (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Benin (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Liberia (X tons) and Gambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

At the same time, Guinea (+24.8%), Mali (+18.2%), Togo (+16.0%), Liberia (+14.4%), Burkina Faso (+10.7%), Gambia (+8.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (+7.4%), Ghana (+7.1%), Sierra Leone (+6.6%), Cabo Verde (+5.6%), Senegal (+2.9%) and Benin (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +24.8% from 2012-2021. While the share of Guinea (+3 p.p.), Mali (+2.9 p.p.) and Togo (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Benin (-1.7 p.p.) and Nigeria (-5.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses in ECOWAS, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Mali, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria stood at +6.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+10.9% per year) and Mali (+22.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 17% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Sierra Leone ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
