In value terms, playing cards exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 601% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Senegal dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X kg) and Mali (X kg), together mixing up a 10% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to playing cards exports from Senegal stood at +40.3%. At the same time, Mali (+70.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +70.4% from 2012-2022. Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Senegal and Mali increased by +79 and +4.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) emerged as the largest playing cards supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

In Senegal, playing cards exports increased at an average annual rate of +39.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+6.2% per year) and Mali (+71.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -72.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 355%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+6.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS

Playing cards imports soared to X tons in 2022, jumping by 86% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 253%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, playing cards imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 186% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Imports by Country

Ghana (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) dominates imports structure, together committing 81% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Togo (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), together constituting a 13% share of total imports. Mali (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +56.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 82% share of total imports.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +40.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -28.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 86% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
