Polyethylene glycol and polyether exports dropped to X tons in 2021, which is down by -5.3% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 181% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether exports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 145% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Niger (X tons) was the largest exporter of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms, generating 40% of total exports. Ghana (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 57% share of total exports. Togo (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Niger ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+1.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms decreased by -9.4% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 47%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Nigeria (X tons) represented the major importer of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms, committing 56% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 31% share of total imports. Mali (X tons), Guinea (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+18.5%), Mali (+12.1%), Guinea (+11.1%), Senegal (+8.9%), Ghana (+7.6%) and Burkina Faso (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +18.5% from 2012-2021. Cote d'Ivoire (+7.7 p.p.), Ghana (+3 p.p.), Senegal (+2 p.p.) and Mali (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -15.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms in ECOWAS, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 9.6% share.
In Nigeria, polyethylene glycol and polyether imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+8.2% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+16.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Guinea ($X per ton) and Mali ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) and Nigeria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guinea (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
