Cote d'Ivoire was the key exporter of polyvinyl chloride in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 68% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), constituting a 31% share of total exports.
Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the polyvinyl chloride exports, with a CAGR of -2.6% from 2012 to 2022. Senegal (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cote d'Ivoire (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Senegal saw its share reduced by -5.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest polyvinyl chloride supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.
In Cote d'Ivoire, polyvinyl chloride exports decreased by an average annual rate of -5.2% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 14%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Senegal stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (-0.6%).

Imports in ECOWAS
Polyvinyl chloride imports stood at X tons in 2022, leveling off at the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -7.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polyvinyl chloride imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Nigeria represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 52% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Ghana (16%) and Senegal (6.1%). The following importers - Togo (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) - together made up 4.6% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to polyvinyl chloride imports into Nigeria stood at +4.8%. At the same time, Togo (+18.2%), Guinea (+11.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (+9.2%), Ghana (+7.2%) and Senegal (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012-2022. Cote d'Ivoire (+4.4 p.p.) and Togo (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -7.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polyvinyl chloride in ECOWAS, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria stood at +10.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+11.1% per year) and Ghana (+9.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 9.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, polyvinyl chloride import price increased by +91.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per ton), while Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
