Shaving Preparations Market Size in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS shaving preparations market dropped slightly to $X in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. The total consumption indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +1.2% against 2019 indices. In 2021, the amount of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) exported in ECOWAS reduced rapidly to X tons, shrinking by -19.5% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 319% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, shaving preparations exports rose slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 392% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Ghana was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 81% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), constituting a 13% share of total exports. The following exporters - Gambia (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) - together made up 5.1% of total exports.

Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) exports, with a CAGR of +65.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nigeria (+56.3%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Gambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Ghana (+64 p.p.), Nigeria (+8.8 p.p.) and Gambia (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Cote d'Ivoire saw its share reduced by -29.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest shaving preparations supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Gambia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ghana totaled +60.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Gambia (0.0% per year) and Nigeria (+31.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 28% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 82%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Gambia ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (-2.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2021, the amount of pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) imported in ECOWAS rose slightly to X tons, picking up by 3.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 700% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, shaving preparations imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 193%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of shaving preparations imports in 2021 were Senegal (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), together reaching 91% of total import. Cabo Verde (X tons) and Mali (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +15.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pre-shave, shaving and after-shave preparations (excluding soap in blocks) in ECOWAS, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Ghana amounted to +20.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+10.3% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+7.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 103% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a resilient expansion. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+11.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
