The ECOWAS preparations for animal feeding market reached $X in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -1.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 25%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, preparations for animal feeding exports in ECOWAS dropped to X tons, falling by -13.7% compared with 2021. Overall, exports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preparations for animal feeding exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 52%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Senegal (X tons) was the key exporter of preparations used in animal feeding, comprising 57% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total exports. The following exporters - Benin (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) - each recorded a 7.1% share of total exports.

Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the preparations used in animal feeding exports, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ghana (-1.4%), Benin (-14.5%) and Nigeria (-29.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (+52 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+17 p.p.) and Ghana (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (-73.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Senegal ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 86% share of total exports.

Senegal, with a CAGR of +11.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 65% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+16.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, overseas purchases of preparations used in animal feeding decreased by -14.1% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 44%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, preparations for animal feeding imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of preparations for animal feeding imports in 2022 were Nigeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Ghana (X tons), together recording 68% of total import. Mali (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Guinea (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons). All these countries together took near 20% share of total imports. Cabo Verde (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mali (with a CAGR of +37.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest preparations for animal feeding importing markets in ECOWAS were Nigeria ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Ghana ($X), together accounting for 75% of total imports. Mali, Guinea, Cabo Verde and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

Among the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +37.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 16%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
