In general, exports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 277% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, prepared additives for cements exports declined notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 321% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire was the largest exporter of prepared additives for cements, mortars or concretes in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 56% of total exports in 2022. Ghana (X tons) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (14%) and Nigeria (9.3%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to prepared additives for cements exports from Cote d'Ivoire stood at +15.1%. At the same time, Ghana (+36.0%), Senegal (+31.8%) and Nigeria (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +36.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Cote d'Ivoire totaled +6.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+29.3% per year) and Senegal (+19.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 43%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Nigeria ($X per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) and Ghana ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, imports of prepared additives for cements, mortars or concretes in ECOWAS expanded sharply to X tons, growing by 14% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 60%. In value terms, the largest prepared additives for cements importing markets in ECOWAS were Nigeria ($X), Niger ($X) and Ghana ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports.

Niger, with a CAGR of +49.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
