In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the ECOWAS remote control apparatus market, when its value decreased by -24.3% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, remote control apparatus production declined markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 96%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2021, overseas shipments of radio remote control apparatus decreased by -90.3% to X kg, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports recorded a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 357%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, remote control apparatus exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 148% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Senegal was the major exporter of radio remote control apparatus in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports accounting for X kg, which was approx. 55% of total exports in 2021. Togo (X kg) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Benin (6.7%), Ghana (5.2%), Liberia (5.2%) and Sierra Leone (4.9%). Nigeria (X kg) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to remote control apparatus exports from Senegal stood at -28.2%. At the same time, Benin (+57.1%), Liberia (+49.9%), Nigeria (+15.5%) and Togo (+14.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Benin emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +57.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ghana (-16.0%) and Sierra Leone (-19.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Togo (+16 p.p.), Benin (+6.7 p.p.), Liberia (+5.2 p.p.), Nigeria (+3.3 p.p.), Ghana (+3.1 p.p.) and Sierra Leone (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Senegal saw its share reduced by -37.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest remote control apparatus supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Benin, with a 12% share.

In Senegal, remote control apparatus exports declined by an average annual rate of -23.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Togo (+9.4% per year) and Benin (+41.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 9.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 149%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Benin (+31.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2021, supplies from abroad of radio remote control apparatus decreased by -28.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, remote control apparatus imports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Ghana (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) were the major importers of radio remote control apparatus in ECOWAS, together constituting 61% of total imports. Mali (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Gambia (6.9%) and Nigeria (6.6%). The following importers - Burkina Faso (X kg) and Guinea (X kg) - each resulted at an 8.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Gambia (with a CAGR of +44.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported radio remote control apparatus in ECOWAS, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 10% share.

In Ghana, remote control apparatus imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Cote d'Ivoire (+16.1% per year) and Nigeria (-15.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 115%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
