Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 167%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, starch manufacture residues imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 202% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Nigeria was the main importer of residues of starch manufacture in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 62% of total imports in 2022. Niger (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Ghana (17%).

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria amounted to -16.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+16.0% per year) and Niger (+21.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 35% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
