Exports in ECOWAS

In 2021, the amount of road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles exported in ECOWAS fell modestly to X units, declining by -4.4% compared with 2020 figures. Total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +71.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 79% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles shrank to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 71%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire represented the largest exporter of road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 52% of total exports in 2021. Benin (X units) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Mali (9.7%) and Niger (5.1%). Senegal (X units), Burkina Faso (X units) and Nigeria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles exports, with a CAGR of +26.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Benin (+13.0%) and Mali (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Senegal (-2.0%), Niger (-6.8%), Burkina Faso (-11.5%) and Nigeria (-25.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire, Benin and Mali increased by +45, +14 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mali ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Niger, with a 5.2% share.

In Cote d'Ivoire, exports of road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles increased at an average annual rate of +29.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mali (+8.2% per year) and Niger (-5.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -11% against the previous year. Export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, export price for road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles decreased by -14.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2021, approx. X units of road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles were imported in ECOWAS; picking up by 76% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Ghana (X units), distantly followed by Senegal (X units), Nigeria (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Guinea (X units), Togo (X units), Mali (X units) and Benin (X units) represented the major importers of road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles, together committing 91% of total imports. Burkina Faso (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +42.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest road-sweepers, mobile workshops and other special purpose vehicles importing markets in ECOWAS were Senegal ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Ghana ($X), together accounting for 49% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Benin, Mali, Burkina Faso and Togo lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Benin, with a CAGR of +35.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -13.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per unit), while Togo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
