After three years of growth, overseas shipments of sack kraft paper decreased by -11.9% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 930% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, sack kraft paper exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 1,485% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Senegal prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 98% of total exports in 2022. Ghana (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sack kraft paper exports, with a CAGR of +33.6% from 2012 to 2022. Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Senegal increased by +73 percentage points.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest sack kraft paper supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports.

In Senegal, sack kraft paper exports increased at an average annual rate of +26.9% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sack kraft paper export price increased by +4.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Senegal amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+11.7%).

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of sack kraft paper, when their volume decreased by -18.4% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 64%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, sack kraft paper imports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 100%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 60% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Senegal (17%). Nigeria (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sack kraft paper imports, with a CAGR of +25.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nigeria (+24.0%), Ghana (+22.2%) and Senegal (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana increased by +35 and +8.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sack kraft paper in ECOWAS, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 16% share.

In Cote d'Ivoire, sack kraft paper imports increased at an average annual rate of +23.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+20.4% per year) and Senegal (+1.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Nigeria ($X per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) and Ghana ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (-1.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
