Exports in ECOWAS
In 2022, safety glass exports in ECOWAS shrank rapidly to X square meters, falling by -18.5% compared with the year before. Total exports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +18.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 76%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X square meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, safety glass exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +14.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 59%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of safety glass, namely Nigeria, Benin and Burkina Faso, represented more than half of total export. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X square meters), Cote d'Ivoire (X square meters), Sierra Leone (X square meters), Mali (X square meters), Ghana (X square meters) and Niger (X square meters), together committing a 41% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Benin (with a CAGR of +41.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest safety glass supplying countries in ECOWAS were Niger ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Benin ($X), with a combined 54% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Benin, with a CAGR of +28.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per square meter in 2022, shrinking by -11.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per square meter), while Burkina Faso ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2022, imports of safety glass in ECOWAS surged to X square meters, growing by 22% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 63%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, safety glass imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Nigeria represented the key importer of safety glass in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports recording X square meters, which was approx. 36% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X square meters), Ghana (X square meters), Cote d'Ivoire (X square meters) and Cabo Verde (X square meters), together creating a 54% share of total imports. The following importers - Togo (X square meters) and Guinea (X square meters) - each finished at a 4.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of +34.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported safety glass in ECOWAS, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 16% share.
In Nigeria, safety glass imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+11.2% per year) and Senegal (+23.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per square meter in 2022, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 130% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per square meter), while Senegal ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
