Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of saw logs and veneer logs (non-coniferous) declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 62%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Nigeria (X cubic meters) and Sierra Leone (X cubic meters) were the major exporters of saw logs and veneer logs (non-coniferous) in 2022, accounting for near 27% and 27% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X cubic meters), Mali (X cubic meters), Liberia (X cubic meters) and Gambia (X cubic meters), together mixing up a 44% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mali (with a CAGR of +59.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of saw logs and veneer logs (non-coniferous) dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In 2022, Ghana (X cubic meters) was the major importer of saw logs and veneer logs (non-coniferous), committing 64% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X cubic meters), creating a 22% share of total imports. The following importers - Senegal (X cubic meters), Togo (X cubic meters), Cabo Verde (X cubic meters) and Guinea (X cubic meters) - together made up 13% of total imports.

Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the saw logs and veneer logs (non-coniferous) imports, with a CAGR of +28.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nigeria (+13.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Togo (-6.1%), Cabo Verde (-10.7%), Senegal (-17.6%) and Guinea (-18.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Cabo Verde, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Ghana stood at +42.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+20.9% per year) and Cabo Verde (-1.3% per year).
