Frozen Sweet Corn Market Size in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS frozen sweet corn market soared to $X in 2021, increasing by 46% against the previous year. Overall, consumption showed a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Frozen Sweet Corn Production in ECOWAS

In value terms, frozen sweet corn production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +23.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Senegal (X tons) remains the largest frozen sweet corn producing country in ECOWAS, comprising approx. 92% of total volume. Moreover, frozen sweet corn production in Senegal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Togo (X tons), more than tenfold.

In Senegal, frozen sweet corn production expanded at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012-2021.

Frozen Sweet Corn Exports

Exports in ECOWAS

For the third consecutive year, ECOWAS recorded decline in overseas shipments of frozen sweet corn, which decreased by -33.5% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports faced a dramatic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 615% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn exports declined sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 453% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Togo represented the largest exporter of frozen sweet corn in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 53% of total exports in 2021. Senegal (X tons) took a 30% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (9.4%) and Nigeria (4.9%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +8.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Togo ($X), Senegal ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 97% of total exports.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +7.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 8.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, frozen sweet corn export price increased by +24.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 72%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+9.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Frozen Sweet Corn Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

For the fourth year in a row, ECOWAS recorded growth in purchases abroad of frozen sweet corn, which increased by 73% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the one major importers of frozen sweet corn, namely Nigeria, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen sweet corn imports, with a CAGR of +35.9% from 2012 to 2021. Nigeria (+52 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen sweet corn in ECOWAS.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria stood at +26.7%.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 21%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Nigeria.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Nigeria amounted to -6.8% per year.
