In 2022, purchases abroad of table, kitchen or household articles of cast iron decreased by -47.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 122%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cast iron household articles imports fell notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 109%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Nigeria represented the major importer of table, kitchen or household articles of cast iron in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 42% of total imports in 2022. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Burkina Faso, with a 13% share.
