Table Linen Market Size in ECOWAS
The ECOWAS table linen market amounted to $X in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Table Linen Production in ECOWAS
In value terms, table linen production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Table Linen Exports
Exports in ECOWAS
After five years of growth, shipments abroad of table linen, knitted or crocheted decreased by -11.2% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 79%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, table linen exports plummeted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Guinea was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 77% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Togo (X tons), comprising a 13% share of total exports. Ghana (X kg), Mali (X kg) and Senegal (X kg) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Guinea was also the fastest-growing in terms of the table linen, knitted or crocheted exports, with a CAGR of +49.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Togo (+44.9%), Mali (+21.8%) and Ghana (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Senegal (-13.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Guinea (+68 p.p.) and Togo (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Ghana and Senegal saw its share reduced by -8.3% and -45.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Guinea ($X) remains the largest table linen supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 6.6% share.
In Guinea, table linen exports increased at an average annual rate of +27.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Togo (+28.0% per year) and Ghana (-3.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -12.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 7%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Table Linen Imports
Imports in ECOWAS
Table linen imports dropped to X tons in 2022, reducing by -8.1% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, table linen imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 55%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Ghana was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 38% of total imports. Senegal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Guinea (X tons). All these countries together held near 46% share of total imports. The following importers - Benin (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) - each accounted for a 6.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to table linen imports into Ghana stood at -8.1%. At the same time, Senegal (+2.9%) and Nigeria (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +2.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (-4.3%), Guinea (-4.8%), Cabo Verde (-9.6%) and Benin (-18.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (+10 p.p.), Nigeria (+6 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+3.4 p.p.) and Guinea (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Ghana (-3.7 p.p.) and Benin (-8.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest table linen importing markets in ECOWAS were Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports.
Senegal, with a CAGR of +14.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guinea ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+11.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
