After two years of growth, the ECOWAS market for television, video and digital cameras decreased by -0.7% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, showed a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, television, video and digital camera production reduced modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ECOWAS
In 2022, the amount of television, video and digital cameras exported in ECOWAS stood at X units, remaining constant against 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 666%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, television, video and digital camera exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Mali (X units), distantly followed by Nigeria (X units), Togo (X units), Guinea (X units), Niger (X units), Ghana (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units) represented the largest exporters of television, video and digital cameras, together constituting 89% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Guinea (with a CAGR of +23.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Mali ($X) and Ghana ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 65% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +38.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -13.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 312%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Togo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mali (+22.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Television, Video and Digital Cameras
Imports in ECOWAS
Television, video and digital camera imports rose slightly to X units in 2022, surging by 3.7% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, television, video and digital camera imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Ghana represented the major importing country with an import of about X units, which recorded 39% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Guinea (X units), Nigeria (X units), Liberia (X units) and Senegal (X units). All these countries together took approx. 48% share of total imports. Sierra Leone (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to television, video and digital camera imports into Ghana stood at +5.9%. At the same time, Liberia (+14.3%), Senegal (+13.2%), Sierra Leone (+8.3%) and Guinea (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Liberia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +14.3% from 2012-2022. Cote d'Ivoire experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Nigeria (-11.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+15 p.p.), Guinea (+5.8 p.p.), Liberia (+4.4 p.p.), Senegal (+4 p.p.) and Sierra Leone (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -28.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Senegal ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 54% share of total imports. Guinea, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
Liberia, with a CAGR of +6.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -11.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 15%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while Liberia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
