Exports in ECOWAS
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of thiosulphates, when their volume increased by 35% to X kg. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 583% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, thiosulphates exports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 353% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the one major exporters of thiosulphates, namely Cote d'Ivoire, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the thiosulphates exports, with a CAGR of +18.0% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) also remains the largest thiosulphates supplier in ECOWAS.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Cote d'Ivoire amounted to +13.6%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -28.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 196% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Cote d'Ivoire.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Cote d'Ivoire amounted to -3.7% per year.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, the amount of thiosulphates imported in ECOWAS skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 19% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 147% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, thiosulphates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 279%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Mali prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 89% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Guinea (X tons), mixing up a 5.1% share of total imports. The following importers - Ghana (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.8% share of total imports.
Mali was also the fastest-growing in terms of the thiosulphates imports, with a CAGR of +100.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guinea (+83.3%), Ghana (+24.1%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+19.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mali and Guinea increased by +87 and +5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mali ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported thiosulphates in ECOWAS, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Guinea ($X), with a 3.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mali stood at +100.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Guinea (+61.9% per year) and Ghana (+14.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, thiosulphates import price decreased by -0.7% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 53%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Mali ($X per ton) and Ghana ($X per ton), while Guinea ($X per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mali (+0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
