Exports by Country
In 2022, Togo (X tons) represented the main exporter of transmission shafts and cranks, bearing housings and plain shaft bearings, gears and gearing and articulated link chain, generating 61% of total exports. Nigeria (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ghana (5.4%). Senegal (X tons), Benin (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, waning by -1.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 69% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Overall, imports saw strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Nigeria represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 72% of total imports. Burkina Faso (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Ghana (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 19% share of total imports. The following importers - Senegal (X tons), Guinea (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) - each reached a 6.5% share of total imports.
Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Burkina Faso (+26.5%), Senegal (+23.0%), Guinea (+17.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (+10.3%) and Ghana (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +26.5% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Burkina Faso increased by +8.3 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported transmission shafts and cranks, bearing housings and plain shaft bearings, gears and gearing and articulated link chain in ECOWAS, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Guinea, with a 6.1% share.
