The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes exports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 329% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Ghana (X units) was the largest exporter of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes, constituting 50% of total exports. Benin (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Togo (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units). All these countries together held near 45% share of total exports. Nigeria (X units) and Liberia (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Ghana decreased at an average annual rate of -8.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Togo (+30.6%), Liberia (+19.1%) and Benin (+6.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +30.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (-28.3%) and Nigeria (-30.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+25 p.p.), Togo (+15 p.p.), Benin (+15 p.p.) and Liberia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire saw its share reduced by -11.9% and -43.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the largest transporter and bridge cranes supplying countries in ECOWAS were Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), together comprising 80% of total exports. These countries were followed by Benin, Togo and Liberia, which together accounted for a further 18%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +32.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 411% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Liberia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+21.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, supplies from abroad of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes decreased by -40.9% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. In general, imports saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 139% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports faced a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 123% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Nigeria (X units) and Guinea (X units) represented roughly 60% of total imports in 2021. Senegal (X units) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Ghana (12%) and Cote d'Ivoire (5%). The following importers - Liberia (X units) and Benin (X units) - each accounted for a 5.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Benin (with a CAGR of +53.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Guinea ($X) and Senegal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 75% share of total imports. Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia and Benin lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
Benin, with a CAGR of +60.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 5.4% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Liberia ($X per unit) and Nigeria ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) and Ghana ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
