Vegetable Puree Market Size in ECOWAS

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the ECOWAS vegetable puree market, when its value decreased by -21.8% to $X. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Vegetable Puree Production in ECOWAS

In value terms, vegetable puree production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 3,965% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of vegetable puree, when their volume decreased by -7.7% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 183%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable puree exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 89%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Mali prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 96% of total exports in 2022. Togo (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Mali was also the fastest-growing in terms of the vegetable puree exports, with a CAGR of +34.7% from 2012 to 2022. Togo (-14.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mali (+41 p.p.) and Togo (+4.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mali ($X) remains the largest vegetable puree supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports.

In Mali, vegetable puree exports expanded at an average annual rate of +36.9% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 106%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per ton), while Togo totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+2.1%).

Vegetable Puree Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, vegetable puree imports in ECOWAS fell rapidly to X tons, with a decrease of -31.3% on 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 82%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vegetable puree imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Mali (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) were the key importers of vegetable puree in ECOWAS, together making up 54% of total imports. Nigeria (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X tons), Togo (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons). All these countries together held near 38% share of total imports. Ghana (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mali (with a CAGR of +55.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest vegetable puree importing markets in ECOWAS were Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Mali ($X) and Senegal ($X), together comprising 67% of total imports.

Mali, with a CAGR of +60.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 25% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Cabo Verde ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
