Vegetable Market Size in ECOWAS

In value terms, vegetable exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2015 indices. Niger represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), making up a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Burkina Faso (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Mali (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Exports from Niger increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mali (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Senegal (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Burkina Faso (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Niger (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Senegal and Burkina Faso saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest vegetable supplier in ECOWAS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Niger ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Senegal amounted to X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (X% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (X% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, vegetable imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2022, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Mali (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) represented the main importers of vegetables, together comprising X% of total imports. Sierra Leone (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton.
