Wheeled Loader Market Size in ECOWAS

For the third year in a row, the ECOWAS wheeled loader market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +92.8% against 2015 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Wheeled Loader Production in ECOWAS

In value terms, wheeled loader production fell dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 50%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then fell notably in the following year.

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2021, the amount of wheeled loaders, crawler shovel loaders, front-end loaders exported in ECOWAS soared to X units, with an increase of 62% compared with 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wheeled loader exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 83%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Burkina Faso (X units) was the key exporter of wheeled loaders, crawler shovel loaders, front-end loaders, constituting 50% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units), together creating a 26% share of total exports. Guinea (X units), Niger (X units), Sierra Leone (X units), Gambia (X units), Mali (X units), Cabo Verde (X units), Benin (X units), Nigeria (X units) and Togo (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wheeled loader exports from Burkina Faso stood at +8.3%. At the same time, Guinea (+27.7%), Gambia (+22.0%), Cabo Verde (+16.7%), Nigeria (+8.0%) and Senegal (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (-8.7%), Niger (-12.2%), Sierra Leone (-13.6%), Benin (-15.4%), Mali (-20.8%) and Togo (-24.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Burkina Faso (+31 p.p.), Senegal (+11 p.p.), Guinea (+3.5 p.p.) and Gambia (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Niger, Mali and Togo saw its share reduced by -4.4%, -5.2%, -5.9%, -6.1%, -11.8% and -16% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X) emerged as the largest wheeled loader supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with an 8.4% share.

In Burkina Faso, wheeled loader exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+8.3% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (-6.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, falling by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per unit), while Cabo Verde ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sierra Leone (+35.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wheeled Loader Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

Wheeled loader imports surged to X units in 2021, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +86.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, wheeled loader imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +114.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of wheeled loaders, crawler shovel loaders, front-end loaders, namely Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Guinea, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Liberia, Ghana, Togo, Sierra Leone, Benin and Niger, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 53% share of total imports. Guinea, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Benin and Niger lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

Mali, with a CAGR of +12.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -7.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+22.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
