As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In 2021, overseas shipments of windscreen wipers, defrosters and demisters for motorcycles or motor vehicles decreased by -26.4% to X units, falling for the fourth consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 772% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vehicle windscreen wiper exports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 1,235% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from Sierra Leone (X units), together accounting for 97% of total export.

Sierra Leone was also the fastest-growing in terms of the windscreen wipers, defrosters and demisters for motorcycles or motor vehicles exports, with a CAGR of +12.6% from 2012 to 2021. Sierra Leone (+35 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sierra Leone ($X) also remains the largest vehicle windscreen wiper supplier in ECOWAS.

In Sierra Leone, vehicle windscreen wiper exports increased at an average annual rate of +23.9% over the period from 2012-2021.

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, falling by -15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 71%. Overall, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 98% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, vehicle windscreen wiper imports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Guinea (X units) and Ghana (X units) were the largest importers of windscreen wipers, defrosters and demisters for motorcycles or motor vehicles in 2021, finishing at approx. 40% and 31% of total imports, respectively. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Sierra Leone (X units) and Nigeria (X units). All these countries together took approx. 25% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Sierra Leone (with a CAGR of +62.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported windscreen wipers, defrosters and demisters for motorcycles or motor vehicles in ECOWAS, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Guinea ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ghana totaled +14.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Guinea (+7.8% per year) and Nigeria (-12.4% per year).
