From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers declined notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 389% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

Colombia (X units) was the main destination for exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Ecuador, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Colombia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Peru (X units), more than tenfold.

In value terms, Colombia ($X) remains the key foreign market for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers exports from Ecuador, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Colombia amounted to +7.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Peru (+12.5% per year) and Brazil (+43.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average export price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -29.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 106%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas purchases of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers decreased by -13.5% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 78%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 85%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Colombia (X units), Chile (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Ecuador, with a combined 88% share of total imports. Brazil, Turkey and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +40.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Colombia ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the largest aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container suppliers to Ecuador, with a combined 87% share of total imports.

Brazil, with a CAGR of +43.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -10.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while the price for Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
