The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 21%. Production of peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The average yield of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres in Ecuador totaled X tons per ha in 2022, remaining stable against 2021 figures. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 70%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

The UK (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Ecuador, with a combined 72% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres decreased by -1.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Japan ($X per ton) and the Philippines ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ecuador
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, when their volume decreased by -3.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 730% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 416% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.
