Melon Market Size in Ecuador

The Ecuadorian melon market stood at $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a mild curtailment. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, melon exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 3,239%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for melon exports from Ecuador, with a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, melon exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), threefold. Slovenia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovenia stood at -17.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+6.0% per year) and the United States (-0.2% per year).

The average melon export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -14.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 65%. In 2022, overseas purchases of melons were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 368%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, melon imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 173% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Colombia (X tons) and Peru (X tons) were the main suppliers of melon imports to Ecuador.
