In general, exports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, alcohols exports contracted significantly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for alcohols exports from Egypt, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, alcohols exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by France (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Turkey stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-X% per year) and France (+X% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest markets for alcohols exported from Egypt worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.
