After two years of decline, the Egyptian circuit breaker market increased by 25% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption enjoyed a perceptible expansion. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, circuit breaker exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 228% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X units) was the main destination for circuit breaker exports from Egypt, accounting for a 46% share of total exports. Moreover, circuit breaker exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X units), threefold. Japan (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France stood at +5.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+35.4% per year) and Japan (-14.7% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for automatic circuit breakers exports from Egypt, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to France amounted to +22.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+41.9% per year) and Japan (-30.2% per year).

The average circuit breaker export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 575%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) and Jordan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($X per unit) and Turkey ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Libya (+26.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of automatic circuit breakers, when their volume increased by 11% to X units. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 97% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, circuit breaker imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Italy (X units) and Spain (X units) were the main suppliers of circuit breaker imports to Egypt, with a combined 64% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Germany, India, Turkey, France and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +34.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest circuit breaker suppliers to Egypt, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Spain, the Czech Republic, India, Turkey, France and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

The average circuit breaker import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 73% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+18.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
