In value terms, the largest markets for bituminous mixtures exported from Egypt were Senegal ($X), Kenya ($X) and Morocco ($X), together accounting for 47% of total exports. These countries were followed by Mauritius, Cyprus, Libya, Nigeria, Jordan, Vietnam, Finland, France, the UK and Jamaica, which together accounted for a further 48%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Jamaica, with a CAGR of +3,523.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average bituminous mixtures export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 121%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to Mauritius ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mauritius (+65.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of bituminous mixtures decreased by -42.8% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 1,004%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bituminous mixtures imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 567% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest bituminous mixtures supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, bituminous mixtures imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fivefold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States totaled +5.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+28.7% per year) and the UK (+9.4% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bituminous mixtures to Egypt, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States stood at +2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+54.6% per year) and the UK (+6.4% per year).

In 2021, the average bituminous mixtures import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -3.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 84%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+20.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
