In 2021, overseas purchases of bituminous mixtures decreased by -42.8% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 1,004%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bituminous mixtures imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 567% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest bituminous mixtures supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, bituminous mixtures imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fivefold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States stood at +2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+54.6% per year) and the UK (+6.4% per year).
