In value terms, book and brochure exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild decrease. Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X units) was the main destination for book and brochure exports from Egypt, accounting for a 32% share of total exports. Moreover, book and brochure exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Libya (X units), threefold. Morocco (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Saudi Arabia stood at +7.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Libya (-17.0% per year) and Morocco (-0.9% per year).
In value terms, Libya ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for books, brochures and similar printed matter exports from Egypt, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Libya stood at -2.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+21.1% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+1.8% per year).

In 2022, purchases abroad of books, brochures and similar printed matter increased by 33% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, book and brochure imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the UK (X units) constituted the largest book and brochure supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 30% share of total imports. Moreover, book and brochure imports from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lebanon (X units), with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the UK totaled -6.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-3.6% per year) and Lebanon (-5.2% per year).

The United Arab Emirates, China, Germany, France, Greece, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 112% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
