Ceramic Tile Market Size in Egypt

For the third year in a row, the Egyptian ceramic tile market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -94.6% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption showed a sharp shrinkage. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ceramic tile production reduced modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a abrupt slump. In 2022, approx. X square meters of ceramic tiles were exported from Egypt; surging by 14% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 129% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, ceramic tile exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Libya (X square meters), Jordan (X square meters) and Yemen (X square meters) were the main destinations of ceramic tile exports from Egypt, together comprising 55% of total exports. Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Sudan, Lebanon and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Palestine (with a CAGR of +49.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Libya ($X), Jordan ($X) and Yemen ($X) constituted the largest markets for ceramic tile exported from Egypt worldwide, with a combined 58% share of total exports. Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Lebanon and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

Palestine, with a CAGR of +24.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Export Prices by Country

The average ceramic tile export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, rising by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 13%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Morocco ($X per square meter) and Libya ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per square meter) and Yemen ($X per square meter) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Morocco (-14.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, overseas purchases of ceramic tiles decreased by -19.5% to X square meters, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 224% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 176% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of ceramic tile to Egypt, accounting for a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, ceramic tile imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X square meters), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X square meters), with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India stood at +122.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-1.6% per year) and China (-16.7% per year).

In value terms, India ($X), Spain ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest ceramic tile suppliers to Egypt, together comprising 56% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +121.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average ceramic tile import price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 27%. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per square meter), while the price for India ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
