Coffee Extract Market Size in Egypt

In 2021, the Egyptian coffee extract market decreased by -3.1% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, the total consumption indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine-year period. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +88.1% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 36%. Coffee extract production peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Coffee extract exports from Egypt fell modestly to X tons in 2021, reducing by -3.8% on 2020. Overall, exports recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 174%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, coffee extract exports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Turkey (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Palestine (X tons) were the main destinations of coffee extract exports from Egypt.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +100.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for coffee extract exported from Egypt were Palestine ($X), Italy ($X) and Turkey ($X), together accounting for 38% of total exports. Jordan, Morocco, Lebanon, Japan, Malaysia, Iraq, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Belgium and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

Among the main countries of destination, Belgium, with a CAGR of +81.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average coffee extract export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 208%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Palestine (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

In 2021, supplies from abroad of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates decreased by -5.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 190% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, coffee extract imports contracted slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +64.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 40%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

Spain (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main suppliers of coffee extract imports to Egypt, with a combined 62% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Poland, South Korea, Colombia, Germany, Malaysia and India, which together accounted for a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Colombia (with a CAGR of +301.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X), Morocco ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the largest coffee extract suppliers to Egypt, with a combined 63% share of total imports.

The UK, with a CAGR of +99.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average coffee extract import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 124%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
