In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane), when their volume increased by 43% to X tons. In general, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -19.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 77%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), fourfold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+9.0% per year) and Belgium (+28.8% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane) to Egypt, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +5.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+5.3% per year) and Belgium (+30.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 10% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
