In value terms, dried or smoked fish exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 146% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for dried or smoked fish exports from Egypt, with a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, dried or smoked fish exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kuwait (X tons), fivefold. Oman (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates totaled +8.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (-2.9% per year) and Oman (-5.8% per year).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for dried or smoked fish exports from Egypt, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United Arab Emirates totaled +14.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+9.2% per year) and Kuwait (+12.7% per year).

The average dried or smoked fish export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 71% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas purchases of dried or smoked fish decreased by -12% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 606%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dried or smoked fish imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 113% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Norway (X tons) constituted the largest dried or smoked fish supplier to Egypt, with a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, dried or smoked fish imports from Norway exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Chile (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Norway amounted to +20.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+1,297.5% per year) and the UK (+1.6% per year).
In value terms, Norway ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dried or smoked fish to Egypt, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Norway totaled +18.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+919.4% per year) and the UK (+6.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average dried or smoked fish import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 70% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
