Saudi Arabia (X units), Jordan (X units) and Bahrain (X units) were the main destinations of bicycle lighting exports from Egypt, together accounting for 87% of total exports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Sudan, which together accounted for a further 13%.

In 2021, imports of electrical or battery operated lighting or visual signalling for bicycles into Egypt plummeted to X units, which is down by -62.7% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports saw a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 199% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bicycle lighting imports declined notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 287% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), India (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main suppliers of bicycle lighting imports to Egypt, with a combined 75% share of total imports. Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia, the UK, South Korea and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

The average bicycle lighting import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 297%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+25.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
