Imports into Egypt

In 2021, supplies from abroad of envelopes increased by 6.1% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, envelope imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 67%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of envelope imports to Egypt, with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Spain and Italy, which together accounted for a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +106.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
