Flax Fiber Market Size in Egypt

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 158% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, flax fiber exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 168%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

China (X tons) was the main destination for flax fiber exports from Egypt, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, flax fiber exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China totaled +46.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (-7.1% per year) and India (+131.9% per year).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -6.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 110%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, flax fiber imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -7.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X.
