Over the period under review, consumption saw a pronounced expansion. Palestine (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of ghee exports from Egypt, together comprising 81% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Palestine (with a CAGR of +39.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for ghee exported from Egypt were Palestine ($X), Lebanon ($X) and Iraq ($X), together comprising 57% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Palestine, with a CAGR of +29.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average ghee export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 42% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Palestine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt
Ghee imports into Egypt rose sharply to X tons in 2022, surging by 8.5% on the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 120%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ghee imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 147%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, New Zealand (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of ghee to Egypt, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, ghee imports from New Zealand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Uganda (X tons), with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from New Zealand was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+5.1% per year) and Uganda (+29.4% per year).
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ghee to Egypt, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Uganda, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from New Zealand amounted to +1.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+6.9% per year) and Uganda (+31.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average ghee import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ghee import price increased by +40.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 68%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Uganda ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+30.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
