Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports showed a modest expansion. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fibre filament imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest glass fibre filament supplier to Egypt, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibre filament imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), twofold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+29.7% per year) and Indonesia (0.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre filaments to Egypt, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled -3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+24.8% per year) and Indonesia (0.0% per year).

In 2021, the average glass fibre filament import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 57%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
