In value terms, crude glycerol exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild expansion. Libya (X tons) was the main destination for crude glycerol exports from Egypt, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, crude glycerol exports to Libya exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tunisia (X tons), fourfold.

In 2021, the amount of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes imported into Egypt shrank markedly to X tons, falling by -69.7% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 594% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, crude glycerol imports declined significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. Brazil (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Greece (X tons) were the main suppliers of crude glycerol imports to Egypt, with a combined 81% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +69.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Greece ($X) constituted the largest crude glycerol suppliers to Egypt, together accounting for 81% of total imports.
