Overall, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -19.4% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 55%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, kaolin imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Portugal (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main suppliers of kaolin imports to Egypt, together accounting for 52% of total imports.
