In value terms, lemon and lime exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 79%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for lemon and lime exports from Egypt, accounting for a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, lemon and lime exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Jordan (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Russia (X tons), with a 5.8% share.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for lemons and limes exports from Egypt, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Jordan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Saudi Arabia amounted to +14.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Jordan (+11.4% per year) and Russia (+25.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average lemon and lime export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -26.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 24%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Egypt
In 2021, approx. X tons of lemons and limes were imported into Egypt; growing by 63% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 507% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, lemon and lime imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 308% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) were the main suppliers of lemon and lime imports to Egypt, together comprising 86% of total imports. These countries were followed by Jordan, which accounted for a further 14%.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
