Maize Oil Market Size in Egypt

The Egyptian maize oil market declined significantly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -79.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a sharp decrease. Maize oil consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, maize oil exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate moderate growth. Libya (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) were the main destinations of maize oil exports from Egypt, with a combined 77% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Palestine and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

Over the period under review, export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, maize oil export price increased by +110.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 35%. In 2022, the amount of maize oil imported into Egypt reduced sharply to X tons, waning by -70.9% on 2021. Overall, imports saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, maize oil imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 46%.
