Soft Drink Market Size in Egypt
The Egyptian soft drink market rose significantly to $X in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -8.9% against 2019 indices. Soft drink consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, soft drink production rose notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -10.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 36%. Soft drink production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of soft drinks decreased by -38.2% to X litres, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 127% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, soft drink exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 62%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Libya (X litres), Palestine (X litres) and the United States (X litres) were the main destinations of soft drink exports from Egypt, with a combined 50% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Yemen, Jordan, Sweden, Morocco, Greece, the UK, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Canada, which together accounted for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +28.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Libya ($X), Palestine ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for soft drink exported from Egypt worldwide, together comprising 56% of total exports. These countries were followed by the United States, Yemen, Jordan, Canada, Morocco, Sweden, Greece, Democratic Republic of the Congo and the UK, which together accounted for a further 33%.
Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +28.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, jumping by 40% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Angola (+41.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of soft drinks, when their volume increased by 137% to X litres. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep setback. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soft drink imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Austria (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of soft drink to Egypt, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, soft drink imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Saudi Arabia (X litres), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates (X litres), with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Austria stood at +15.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-16.4% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-7.9% per year).
In value terms, Austria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soft drink to Egypt, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Austria totaled +16.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-17.2% per year) and Germany (+3.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, soft drink import price decreased by -7.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per litre), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
