In 2021, purchases abroad of nuts (prepared or preserved) decreased by -13.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bulgaria, Lebanon and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.6%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of +71.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Spain ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest nuts (prepared or preserved) suppliers to Egypt, together comprising 87% of total imports. Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bulgaria, Lebanon and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.4%.
